It’s a beautiful afternoon for football in Palos Verdes Estates, where San Pedro will be taking on Palos Verdes in an intriguing intersectional game between two strong South Bay programs.

With two impressive victories to open the season Palos Verdes looks like a team poised to challenge defending champion Manhattan Beach Mira Costa for the Bay League title. The Sea Kings are led by their junior quarterback Zack Fixen, who has thrown for 171 yards and five touchdowns, and senior running back Marc Sasso, who has gained 246 yards in 38 carries, an average of 6.47 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, San Pedro is coming off a 44-0 trouncing of Los Angeles Santee and figures to challenge the likes of Carson and Harbor City Narbonne for the Marine League crown. The Pirates are led by sophomore running back Darrell Santiago, who scored two touchdowns last week, and All-Marine League linebacker Kristopher Bass.

Palos Verdes won last year’s game, 20-14, so San Pedro will try to turn the tide today. The teams have taken the field and we’re minutes away from the opening kickoff.
