Friday’s nonleague game between host Tesoro and Santa Margarita should be sold out as fans come out in large numbers to see whether the area public school can handle the area private school.

And what a coaching matchup, Brian Barnes vs. Harry Welch.

This is more than bragging rights at stake. Santa Margarita is trying to make an early impression in Welch’s first season. A 56-0 win over Pomona Diamond Ranch got people wondering how good the Eagles might be, but a win over Tesoro would get the community talking about a turnaround.

Tesoro has aspirations of challenging Mission Viejo in the South Coast League, so a win over Santa Margarita would be a step forward.
