Football: Nick Richardson comes out running wild
Everyone knew about the talent of Los Alamitos running back Nick Richardson, who rushed for 1,906 yards as a junior. But Richardson was even better in his season debut last week against Norwalk, rushing for 258 yards in 15 carries and scoring four touchdowns in a 34-0 victory.
I think Los Alamitos could be a top five team before the season is finished. But my concern is that a weak regular-season schedule won't prepare the Griffins for the grind of the Pac-5 playoffs.
Of course, winning the Pac-5 title would probably get them a state bowl berth. But people are going to be skeptical until they play a top team. The only team in The Times' top 25 on Los Alamitos' schedule is Huntington Beach Edison.
No one should doubt the ability of Richardson, however.
