There was a specific reason Long Beach Poly took to the air last week in its 42-28 win over Bakersfield. Coach Raul Lara has concluded that the receiver position is deep and talented. And, as we’ve learned with Poly, that means he has receivers capable of playing in college and beyond.

Richard Smith, a junior, did his DeSean Jackson impersonation, catching three passes for 141 yards, all for touchdowns. But there’s plenty of others, such as juniors Randall Goforth and Josiah Blandin, plus seniors Gregory Hayes and Donald Byrd, not to mention tight end Earnest Pettway. And remember, ex-Poly players Jackson and Marcedes Lewis aren’t just average NFL players. They’re impact guys.
