If any game in the Southland this weekend is worthy of a David vs. Goliath comparison, it is tonight’s intersectional clash between Anaheim Servite and Granada Hills Kennedy.

On paper, this is a blowout. Servite, ranked third in The Times’ Top 25 poll, is on a 12-game winning streak and is coming off a 31-7 trouncing of defending Division I state bowl champion Oceanside last week. The Friars, who won the 2009 state Division II bowl championship, went 14-1 last fall despite having one of the toughest schedules of any team in California.

Kennedy was 6-4 last year, finishing second in the Valley Mission League, and failed to qualify for the City Section Division I playoffs. The Golden Cougars will have home-field advantage, but will need to play their best to make a game of it against one of the elite programs in the Southern Section.

The teams are lining up for the opening kickoff and Kennedy will receive. Check back for score-by-score updates...
