Football: It’s a battle of state champions

For the first time, two defending state football champions are facing off in a season opener. It’s Anaheim Servite, the Division II state bowl champion, taking on Oceanside, the Division I state bowl champion, Thursday night at Orange Coast College.

The big question for Servite is its new quarterback, Cody Pittman, who takes over for Cody Fajardo. If Pittman can be productive and not make mistakes, the Friars’ defense should do the rest.

I’ll be providing blog updates through the night. Action begins at 7 p.m.
