The Southern Section has reversed itself and approved for eligibility Huntington Beach quarterback Chase Favreau, who transferred from Santa Ana Mater Dei last January.

‘I guess they needed to have more time to look it over,’ Edison Coach Dave White said. ‘They did the right thing.’

Favreau had been declared ineligible last month because of what was ruled to be an athletically motivated transfer. Edison officials and Favreau’s parents then asked for and received a meeting with Southern Section Commissioner Jim Staunton.

Favreau had been Edison’s starting quarterback all summer but missed the Chargers’ opening game, a 59-0 win over Lakewood Artesia.

He’s expected to start at quarterback for the Chargers’ next game on Friday.
