Venice and Garfield had a scrimmage last week, and both coaches came away with results.

Venice might have the best group of receivers in the City Section, and they made quite an impression on Garfield Coach Lorenzo Hernandez.

‘I was very impressed,’ Hernandez said. ‘They’re so athletic.’

Venice junior quarterback Dean Sarabia threw four TD passes.

‘I was happy Dean was accurate,’ Venice Coach Angelo Gasca said.

Venice has the best receiver in the City Section in junior Gabriel Marks. At least that’s my opinion.

Garfield also showed a passing game, something that has been missing in the past. Quarterback Leonardo Vaal could be ready to offer a threat through the air this season.

‘I think Garfield is a formidable team,’ Gasca said.

Garfield opens its season Friday against La Puente Bishop Amat at East Los Angeles College. Venice plays host to North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake.
