Football: Top Dorsey lineman appears headed to Crespi

The Mission League has apparently become the favorite destination for athletes from Los Angeles Dorsey. Basketball players Michael and Marqueze Coleman from Dorsey are transferring to Mission Hills Alemany, and the biggest and best lineman from the Dorsey football team, heavily recruited junior Jordan Simmons, appears headed to Encino Crespi.

Dorsey Coach Paul Knox said Monday that Simmons hasn’t practiced with the team in two weeks and that Crespi was the likely destination. ‘That’s the way I hear it,’ Knox said.

If Simmons enrolls at Crespi, he would be the most publicized transfer yet for new Coach Jon Mack. He has scholarship offers from USC, UCLA and Florida.Most alarming is that the Mission League appears to be on the way to returning to the days of the 1990s, when schools started accepting transfers en masse under open enrollment until peer pressure caused a backlash and resulted in rules restricting transfers.

West Hills Chaminade has taken in its share of football transfers. North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake has accepted a top basketball transfer.

Let’s see how many transfers it takes before the principals in the league decide enough.

Update: Mack confirmed Monday afternoon that Simmons is registered at Crespi and has been working out with the team.
