First-year Coach Elijah Asante from Carson said All-City running back Dion Willis was the real deal at an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.

‘He was phenomenal,’ Asante said. ‘He’s quick, fast and strong.’

And Asante isn’t backing down from his prediction on quarterback Justin Alo.

‘I believe he’ll be the City player of the year,’ Asante said.

Asante isn’t afraid of developing bulletin board material for opposing teams. Carson has to play Santa Ana Mater Dei, Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo in nonleague games. Then come the rivalry games in the Marine League.

Asante’s team will have plenty of opportunities to put up or shut up.
