Corona Centennial guard Gelaun Wheelwright, who was the first player to commit to USC Coach Kevin O’Neill, is no longer headed to USC, Coach Josh Giles said Wednesday.

USC pulled its scholarship offer after deciding Wheelwright had not made the improvement needed in several areas, according to Giles.

‘They both decided they wanted to go in a different direction,’ Giles said.

Wheelwright, who committed to the Trojans at the end of his sophomore season, will be a senior this fall. He has interest from UC Riverside, Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara. Two other Centennial players, Dominique Dunning and Michael Caffey, have committed to New Mexico and Long Beach State, respectively.

Giles said he has no hard feelings toward USC.
