For three years, Woodland Hills Taft Coach Matt Kerstetter has squirmed uncomfortably on the sideline trying to signal in plays while hoping his quarterbacks would be able to run his offense that revolved around reading defenses and making precision throws.

He never really had a quarterback who fit his offense _ until now.

‘It’s a beautiful thing,’ Kerstetter said, referring to the ability of his new quarterback, Michael Bercovici.

Who knows how many victories Taft will be able to get this fall, but the Toreadors almost certainly are going to pass the ball more effectively because Bercovici understands how the offense is supposed to operate.

He’s a 6-foot-1 strong-armed quarterback with lots of knowledge and experience. If the Toreadors can catch the ball and protect Bercovici, they will score lots of points and gain lots of yards.Taft was playing Wednesday in the weekly passing competition at Los Angeles Loyola, and the passing potential was evident.
