Don’t bother making any predictions on which running back will lead the City Section in rushing. Kevin Ervin from Sun Valley Poly rushed for 2,297 yards and scored 35 touchdowns as a junior, and there’s no reason he won’t exceed that total this season.

The Parrots return every starter but one on their offensive line, and Ervin has been working hard to get stronger and faster.

Poly has strengthened its nonleague schedule, which will offer a challenge to Ervin. But Coach Scott Faer believes his team can be one of the best in Division II.

Los Angeles Fairfax also has a top returning rusher in Matt Bowen, who has gained more than 4,000 yards in his career. And the Lions showed off Wednesday at the Loyola passing competition an outstanding middle linebacker in Don Tyler, 6 feet, 220 pounds. He will be a four-year starter.
