The San Gabriel Valley Arsenal won the AABC Mickey Mantle regional tournament to advance to the World Series Aug. 3-9 in McKinney, Texas. Steven Baltierra from Hacienda Heights Wilson threw a no-hitter in the final game and C.J. Saylor from West Covina South Hills hit three home runs on the final day.

Several players on the team will have conflicts. Rio Ruiz from La Puente Bishop Amat is the quarterback for his football team, and Lucas Giolito from North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake is scheduled to pitch in the Area Code tournament. But Bishop Amat doesn’t start practice until Aug. 11. Ruiz and Giolito have both decided to stay in town and play in the Area Code Games.

Also on the team is Cody Thompson from Mission Hills Alemany, Tanner Bily from JSerra and Ty France from South Hills.-- Eric Sondheimer
