The Playa del Rey Dirtybirds, made up primarily of players and ex-players from Westchester, Hamilton and Crenshaw, continue to be a surprise team in the American Legion state championship playoffs in Yountville.

Steven Gallardo, a Hamilton grad, struck out 12, and Westchester shortstop Kenny Peoples went four for four with three doubles to lead Playa del Rey past Sacramento El Dorado, 5-2, on Sunday.
