Baseball: First-stringers are playing in VIBL playoffs

If it’s VIBL playoff time, it means the big guns are back from their showcases and ready to contribute.

West Hills Chaminade unleashed two of its top pitchers Saturday, Oregon State-bound Mathew Troupe and Stanford-bound Dalton Brown, and they combined on a three-hitter to beat Newhall Hart, 2-1.Troupe struck out 10 in six innings. Tyler Glasnow of Hart struck out seven in 5 2/3 innings.

It sets up a showdown with top-seeded Chatsworth on Monday at 5 p.m. at Chatsworth, when Brown should oppose Chatsworth’s Aaron Brown.

Michael Dergazarian had four hits in El Camino Real’s 5-1 win over Simi Valley. West Ranch defeated Golden Valley, 2-1. A.J. Balta and Alex Bishop had three hits apiece in Valencia’s 16-2 win over Birmingham. Alemany defeated Harvard-Westlake, 3-2, in 10 innings. Moorpark defeated Canyon, 10-3.

Jerry Barajas came in to get the save in Taft’s 7-4 win over Saugus. Zach Friedman broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh with a bases-loaded single.
