Baseball: Dreaming of World Series

Two baseball teams made up of Southern California players are dreaming of the World Series for Connie Mack and American Legion, respectively.

The Conejo Oaks Connie Mack 18U team, coached by Chaminade's Frank Mutz, begins a series Sunday to determine the California champion. The games are at Conejo Creek in Thousand Oaks.

Among the players are Chris Whitmer and Mitch Bluman, members of the 2010 City Section championship team from Woodland Hills El Camino, Nick Vigo from Simi Valley and Michael Dingilian and Cole Rutherford from Chaminade.

The Playa Del Rey Dirtybirds, including players from Westchester, Crenshaw and Hamilton, is in the California state American Legion playoffs. Ex-Crenshaw player Kenji Corbisiero, a redshirt freshman at Marist College, had a 24-game hitting streak going into the weekend.
