Football: Bonita tournament begins Friday

The 32-team Bonita passing tournament begins Friday in La Verne. Action starts at 3 p.m. and lasts until 8:15 p.m. The championship round takes place all day Saturday.

What makes the tournament so interesting is the variety of schools entered.

Pool A: Newhall Hart, Burbank Burroughs, Rancho Cucamonga, Santa Fe, Jurupa Valley and Pomona.

Pool B: Upland, Los Angeles Loyola, Arroyo, Los Altos, Silverado, Villa Park.

Pool C: Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Chino Hills, Corona Roosevelt, Covina, Culver City, Los Amigos.

Pool D: Valencia, Beverly Hills, Crescenta Valley, Ontario Colony, Riverside Poly and Hesperia.

Pool E: Ventura St. Bonaventure, Bonita, Fontana Kaiser, La Serna, Alta Loma and Monrovia.

I’d say Roosevelt and St. Bonaventure deserve the co-favorite role after performing well in two earlier tournaments.
