The VIBL is in full swing using wood bats, and proof as to how hard it is for a high school player to hit a home run with a wood bat can be found in the league statistics.
Ten players are tied for the league lead in home runs with one each.
It has become a pitcher's league.
As for the standings, West Ranch is 6-0, with Chatsworth and Mission Valley (Granada Hills Kennedy) each 5-1.
Alex Rubanowitz from Calabasas is batting .722 and leads the league with 13 hits. A big surprise is second baseman Max Fecske from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. He has 10 hits after playing junior varsity last season.
I wonder how Mike Stanton would have done at Notre Dame with a summer of using wood bats while in high school.-- Eric Sondheimer
