Verdugo Hills won its first City Section championship in Division III boys’ basketball this year, and now the Dons are taking aim at a Division II championship in boys’ volleyball, with some of the same athletes leading the way.

Verdugo Hills plays Westchester on Tuesday night at Verdugo Hills in a 7 p.m. Division II semifinal volleyball match. Chris Dees, a 6-foot-8 junior who was so valuable for the basketball team, is also the Dons’ No. 1 volleyball player with 102 kills despite playing in only nine matches because of the long basketball season.

Two other Dons, juniors Sako Garoian and Rene Alexander, were also members of the basketball team. So look for the Verdugo Hills gym to be loud and filled to capacity.
