The Southern Section announced Friday that Beckman High’s protest regarding Upland High’s illegal batting practice has been denied.

Beckman of Irvine accused Upland of violating the Southern Section playoff rule which states that ‘teams entered in the softball playoffs will not be permitted to take batting practice on the day of the scheduled contest.’

Beckman filed the protest after its 3-1 loss to Upland on May 27.

‘It was determined that a limited form of batting practice did take place,’ according to a Southern Section press release. ‘However, the type of drill taking place and the number of players involved was determined to not be sufficient in reaching a level that would warrant removing a team from the playoffs.’

Upland will face Redlands in a Division 2 semifinal on Tuesday.
