Junior receiver Jordan Payton from Westlake Village Oaks Christian recently announced he had committed to USC, but he figures to be hearing plenty from people with UCLA ties this season.

Oaks Christian Coach Bill Redell has announced the hiring of former UCLA receiver Mike Sherrard to coach the Lions’ receivers. Former UCLA quarterback Jay Schroeder will be an assistant athletic director while helping coach primarily on the freshman-sophomore team. And former UCLA player Ron Evans will help coach linebackers.

But USC fans shouldn’t worry. The Lions still have assistant coach Clay Matthews, who was an All-American linebacker at USC. And defensive coordinator Mark Bates went to USC. So get ready for lots of USC-UCLA talk at Oaks Christian practices.
