For the first time since 1987, the City softball champion won’t be San Pedro or El Camino Real.

The Pirates and Conquistadores have won the last 22 City titles between them, but El Camino Real fell to Chatsworth in the quarterfinals last week and San Pedro dropped a 3-1, eight-inning decision to Granada Hills Kennedy in the semifinals this afternoon.

Third-seeded Kennedy will face fourth-seeded Chatsworth in Wednesday’s championship game; the Chancellors toppled top-seeded Carson 5-4 in the other semifinal.

Conveniently, with the usual championship site, UCLA’s Easton Stadium, unavailable this year, this year’s title game -- matching two Valley teams -- will be played at Cal State Northridge.
