How did it get to this? It was expected that Woodland Hills Taft would have 12 consecutive years of Drews coming through. Now, Coach Derrick Taylor says the second of three Drew brothers, sophomore Landon Drew, is no longer on the basketball team.

‘He’s a great kid, but the circumstances are too unbearable,’ Taylor said of a dispute involving Drew’s mother, Sharon.

But Taft Principal Sharon Thomas said Saturday Drew remains on the team, and that Taylor and Sharon Drew ‘need to work it out as adults.’

Drew’s older brother, Larry Jr., led Taft to the 2008 City Section championships. He’s at North Carolina. Landon has been a starting point guard. And there’s another brother who was expected at Taft in three years.

This disagreement has been building, but what’s clear is that Landon Drew has been caught in the middle, and by all accounts, he’s done nothing wrong.

Now, if only the adults could act like adults.
