A nasty dispute involving Woodland Hills Taft Coach Derrick Taylor and the mother of starting sophomore point guard Landon Drew has come into public view after Taylor said that he has cut Drew from the team.

‘I informed him and his mother he could no longer be on the team,’ Taylor said Saturday. ‘He’s a great kid, but the circumstances are too unbearable.’

Drew’s mother, Sharon, has been holding meetings with Taft Principal Sharon Thomas and local district administrator Myra Fullerton.

Landon Drew is the younger brother of former Taft guard Larry Drew Jr., who led Taft to the 2008 City Section championship and is a sophomore at North Carolina.

Sharon Drew could not be reached for comment.

UPDATE: Taft Principal Sharon Thomas said Saturday that Drew can’t be removed from the team by Taylor. ‘Landon can’t be punished for adult behavior,’ she said.

‘Mrs. Drew and Derrick need to work it out as adults. It’s the most ridiculous thing.’

Whether Drew ends up staying at Taft under the circumstances remains to be seen.
