Wilmington Banning put together its first threat in the third inning when the Pilots had runners on second and third base with two out, but San Pedro pitcher Jon Mata got out of the mess unscathed.

The Pirates lead the Marine League showdown, 2-0, going into the bottom of the third.

Banning’s Lucas Macias reached leading off the top of the inning on an error by shortstop Jacob Johnson. Macias went to second on Anthony Salas’ one-out single to center field and both runners advanced on C.J. Chavez’s sacrifice bunt.

But Mata got Robert Ponce to ground out to shortstop to end the inning.
