Baseball: Neely nearing return for Chatsworth

It has been more than two weeks since Chatsworth first baseman Derek Neely was cleared to play for the Chancellors after missing a month with a broken hand, but he has yet to appear in a game while trying to get into top form during practice.

Coach Tom Meusborn said Neely has been making progress and added, ‘I expect him to contribute’ during the playoffs.

I think Neely is going to be an important factor if the Chancellors are going to win a fourth consecutive City Section Division I title. They need his bat, but he hasn’t hit to the form of last season, so we’ll see.

Chatsworth opens the playoffs Wednesday at home against Harbor City Narbonne.
