Baseball: Greco’s grand slam lifts Royal to Marmonte title

Sophomore Justin Greco hit a grand slam and senior Cody Buckel struck out nine and gave up two hits as Simi Valley Royal wrapped up the Marmonte League championship with an 8-1 victory over Thousand Oaks. The Highlanders finished 22-6 overall and 12-2 in league.

In another Marmonte game, Simi Valley (10-18) got nine hits from freshmen and sophomores in a 7-2 victory over Westlake Village Westlake. Cody Ramer had four hits and Dennis Vigo had three hits.

Valencia clinched the Foothill League title with an 11-3 win over Canyon Country Canyon. Kyle Eaton hit two home runs and went four for four to lead the Vikings. Saugus defeated Valencia West Ranch, 11-8, despite home runs by Josh Heinz and Nico Rusconi. Newhall Hart defeated Santa Clarita Golden Valley, 5-3, with Kevin Bailey getting two hits and two RBIs.
