Chris Tahan, who was an assistant coach at Woodland Hills Taft for three years under Chuck Berrington, has pulled off one of the biggest surprises this season, guiding Van Nuys to a City Section Division II playoff berth in his rookie season as coach.

Van Nuys, the school that produced Dodgers Hall of Famer Don Drysdale, has been stuck in mediocrity for years. But the Wolves finished the regular season 5-13, have an all-East Valley League pitcher in Gabriel Vasquez and suddenly have lots of students wanting to join the baseball team.

‘They have something to look forward to,’ Tahan said of his players.
