Baseball: El Dorado upsets No. 1 Orange Lutheran

Placentia El Dorado has beaten No. 1-seeded Orange Lutheran, 2-1, in a Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinal playoff game.

Simi Valley Royal has scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on RBI singles by Scott Hockenberry and Ryan Tinkham to take a 3-2 lead over San Clemente.

The game has been twice stopped after umpires decided to examine Tinkham’s bat. Twice he has come away with singles, with the bat making a thud sound instead of the usual ping from an aluminum bat. He’s using a composite bat, and there will be much more to discuss after the game.
