Going into Tuesday’s game, Mater Dei (19-2) was on a 17-game winning streak.

Then Santa Margarita played the role of spoiler.

Jessie Daulton hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning and Danny Doucette had an RBI double in the sixth to help lift Santa Margarita to a 4-1 Trinity League victory over Mater Dei at Thornton Park.

Northwestern-bound Amy Letourneau pitched a four-hitter, didn’t allow any earned runs and had six strikeouts.

Mater Dei, the top-ranked team in the state, will have a change to avenge its loss when the teams meet again on May 7.
