The L.A. Watts Summer Games, a sports competition among high school athletes held each summer since 1968, has been canceled for this coming summer because of lack of funding.

Organized by the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Watts Summer Games is expected to return in 2011.

The Watts Summer Games helped bring high school athletes together from all parts of the city and exposed them to areas they had never been to before.

The basketball competition was once considered outstanding, but it had dropped off in recent years with fewer schools participating. Football, track and field, volleyball, soccer and baseball also was held.
