Boys’ basketball: Wooden Awards announced

Seven players will receive the John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year Award. They are Bryce Jones of Woodland Hills Taft (City Section), Tyler Lamb of Santa Ana Mater Dei (Division I), Alex Varner of Rialto Eisenhower (Division II), Deonte Burton of Compton Centennial (Division III), Allen Crabbe of Los Angeles Price (Division IV), Wesley Saunders of L.A. Windward (Division V) and Jon Conley of L.A. Ribet (Division VI).

Each winner will receive a plaque, $300 in his name donated to his high school’s athletic fund,and will be recognized during the John R. Wooden Award Gala that also honors college basketball’s players of the year and Billy Donovan, Florida men’s basketball coach and the 2010 Legends of Coaching recipient.
