Boys’ basketball: Taft is hosting Thursday spring league

Woodland Hills Taft is hosting a Thursday night spring basketball league that includes Chatsworth Sierra Canyon, Simi Valley, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Calabasas and Mission Hills Alemany.
Thursday’s opening schedule: Taft vs. Sierra Canyon, 6 p.m.; Simi Valley vs. Notre Dame, 7 p.m. and Calabasas vs. Alemany, 8 p.m.
Kevin Johnson, a 6-foot-9 center from Taft who sat out last season after transferring from Gardena Serra, is expected to play for the Toreadors.
Taft Coach Derrick Taylor, who is out of town while helping his daughter take college trips, said there were 11 college programs who dropped by school Tuesday to watch the basketball class.
