Former Huntington Beach Edison pitcher Kurt Heyer, a freshman at Arizona, has become the ace of the staff. He’s 6-0 with a 2.15 ERA and set to face UCLA and Gerrit Cole on Friday in Tucson.

Heyer was the tough-luck loser in last year’s Southern Section Division I championship game against Tyler Matzek and Capistrano Valley.

He struck out 14 last week against Washington State.
