Mission Hills Alemany Principal Frank Ferry, known for showing up and rooting enthusiastically for his school’s sports teams, had a squeaker victory of his own on Wednesday, when he won a City Council seat in Santa Clarita by 32 votes.

‘Just like a buzzer beater, it still counts as a win,’ Ferry said.

Ferry led by 69 votes going into a count of remaining mail-in votes and provisional ballots and won a fourth term. It was the first time he ran while serving as principal of Alemany. Some people in the area didn’t appreciate his school has been taking away athletes from the Santa Clarita Valley.

Ferry used to work at Saugus and Valencia.

Correction: In an earlier version, it was reported that Ferry won in a recount. It was a counting of remaining ballots.
