Softball: Memorial service for Brianne Matthews on Friday

A memorial service for Mater Dei pitcher Brianne Matthews will be held on Friday at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex.

Matthews committed suicide on Feb. 25 at her home in Anaheim, according to the Orange County coroner's office.

The Matthews family has asked all high school softball players attending the 3:15 p.m. service to wear their uniforms to pay tribute to Brianne. Softball players who don't play for their school were asked to wear their travel ball uniforms.

I am so sorry about the loss. I know about the depression stage. I am so sorry! My brother just tried to committe suicide I think the same day all this happened. So much stuff is going on. Has anyone thought about all this stuff was pressure on her? I am so sorry again. I can't even express that enough. I wish the family the best. Don't mourn, Just know that she is in a better place, and she is well taking care of. I think she is in Heaven watching everyone that surrouned her with Love, and Joy. RIP.

I am so saddened for the loss of Brianne Matthews. I don't know you but from everything I have read you were a wonderful daughter, friend, teammate, pitcher, Person!! Your life touched many lives with joy and laughter. I hope that it will continue to do just that because of the legacy you have left despite your young age when you left this world. I wish much peace to your family and friends.

brianne was a teammate of mine for a short period of time. we went to south junior high together and were both on the softball team. it was always a hi and bye around school and casual conversations at practice. she was one of the nicest people ive ever met and what drew me in most was that glamorous smile of hers and astonishing personality. eventhough we may not have been that close of friends and havent talked since maybe junior high, she was once a part of my life and many others' lives. shes all ive been thinking about and just like her cousin, i too have been crying myself to sleep. i know many ppl are still grieving but this is the time to celebrate bri's life and celebrate what a truly amazing person bri was. i know for a fact she will begin to touch many more lives...
