Girls' basketball: Still seeking a decent foil

BAKERSFIELD--Is there a Northern California boys' or girls' basketball team capable of hanging with its Southern California counterpart?

So far, we've seen an 18-point victory by Los Angeles Price and a 14-point triumph by North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake. And now Santa Ana Mater Dei already has a nine-point advantage over Concord Carondelet after only one quarter of the Division II girls' championship.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis has been a force for the Monarchs, scoring seven early points.

Attendance has been light throughout the day at Rabobank Arena, with crowds of about 1,500 the norm. Maybe people figured out there was going to be less suspense than a Scooby-Doo re-run.
