Long Beach St. Anthony won the Southern California Division V girls’ regional title with a 48-41 victory over Van Nuys Montclair Prep at Colony.

Freshman Kendall Cooper, who’s 6-3, had 16 points for the Saints (25-9), who went on a 12-0 spurt to open a 41-30 lead with 6:09 left. The Saints had too much height for the Mounties (24-8), and Rina Towne helped make the size even tougher to deal with by making a four outside shots during the game.

A bloody nose suffered by Montclair Prep’s Chantel Dooley kept her on the bench for critical moments. When she returned with 6:09 left, the Mounties were down by 11 and tried to come back. Dooley finished with 15 points and freshman Jasmine Martinez added 12 points.

St. Anthony advances to Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield to play in the Division V final on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. St. Anthony Coach James Anderson won two Division I state titles when he coached at Harbor City Narbonne, and a third was vacated over eligibility issues.
