BAKERSFIELD--There was little suspense in the final 2 1/2 quarters after Harvard-Westlake took a double-digit lead and ran away from Albany St. Mary’s for a 58-44 victory in the state Division IV championship Friday evening at Rabobank Arena.

A pair of senior forwards did the heavy lifting in carrying the Wolverines to their first state title. Sydney Haydel scored 20 points and Nicole Hung had 16 for Harvard-Westlake, which used three separate 9-0 runs to take control.

Senior guard Nicole Nesbit also had 15 points for the Wolverines, who shot 42.5% to St. Mary’s 29.2%.

Harvard-Westlake’s Tiana Woolridge even got in the game briefly on the same day her brother, former Wolverines standout Renaldo Woolridge, was playing for Tennessee in a NCAA tournament Sweet 16 game against Ohio State.
