Their nerves are calming down, and a great basketball game is brewing.

After trailing 21-15 with 4:13 left in the first half, Brea Olinda went on a 10-2 run to take 25-23 halftime lead over Mater Dei in the Southern California Division II regional championship on Saturday at USC.

Brea Olinda has dealt Mater Dei its only two losses the past two years, and the Ladycats are looking very strong even though they are playing without their star point guard Alexis Perry, who recently suffered a torn knee ligament.

Mater Dei is out-shooting Brea Olinda from the field 42.9% to 36.7%, but the Ladycats have had nine more shot attempts than the Monarchs.
