Boys’ basketball: Gardena Serra has 11-point halftime lead

In a frenetic, up-and-down first half, Gardena Serra took a 33-22 lead over Compton Centennial in the Southern California Division III championship at the Galen Center.

Marqise Lee has eight points on four-for-five shooting for the Cavaliers, who are hoping to advance and become the first school to win state titles in football and basketball in the same school year. Serra has already defeated Centennial twice this season, including in a Southern Section title game.

Vaughn Autry and Craig Carter scored six points apiece for Serra, which shot 46.7% to Centennial’s 44.4%.

Kurt Davis has eight points and Deonte Burton seven for Centennial, which is being outrebounded, 21-8.
