Boys’ basketball: Gardena Serra 28, Bishop O’Dowd 24

BAKERSFIELD _ Gardena Serra has a 28-24 halftime lead over Oakland Bishop O’Dowd in the Division III final.

Serra scored the first 11 points of the second quarter to open a 22-11 lead. Keith Shamburger, Steve Archibald and Vaughn Autry each connected on a three-pointer during the run.

Bishop O’Dowd cut its deficit to three points, then Bene Benwikere came through with a dunk on a follow shot, was fouled and finished the three-point play. And Steven Hester added another three-pointer for Serra for a 28-19 lead.

Sophomore Brandon Ashley has kept Bishop O’Dowd in the game. He has 11 points.
