Boys' basketball: Gardena Serra 11, Bishop O'Dowd 9

BAKERSFIELD _ Gardena Serra has emerged with an 11-9 lead over Oakland Bishop O'Dowd after the first quarter of the state Division III championship game. Steven Archibald has scored three baskets off the bench for Serra.

This Division III championship game might be the best of the two-day state championships. Both teams are loaded with physical, strong athletes. It's a battle for every rebound and every shot.

Serra's Jordan Mitchell and Marqise Lee each picked up two fouls in the first quarter.
