Baseball: Ryan Brockett is sharp for Crespi

The top teams all have aces, but the championship teams have outstanding No. 2 pitchers, and Encino Crespi showed off a good one Monday in left-hander Ryan Brockett, who struck out eight and allowed one hit in six innings during the Celts' 7-0 victory over seven-time City Section champion Granada Hills Kennedy.

Michael Hubbard continued his hot hitting with three hits, making him seven for eight on the season. Crespi (2-0), ranked No. 2 by The Times, had three triples in the sixth inning by Hubbard, Jack Colick and Alex Gonzalez. Ryon Healy had a double and single.

Corona Santiago (2-1), which hit six home runs in its opening win over Santa Ana Mater Dei, hit five home runs in a 14-6 win over Palm Desert. Cody Hough had two home runs.

San Juan Capistrano JSerra (2-1) pulled out a 3-2 win over St. Paul in nine innings. Nico Darras tied the game in the fifth with a home run and Bret Dahlson squeezed home the winning run in the ninth.

Chatsworth defeated Canyon Country Canyon, 8-1, with junior right-hander Christian Lopez throwing a two-hitter with seven strikeouts. Justin Davis had a three-run double for the Chancellors (1-1).

Dylan Satin and freshman Jackson Carter combined on a five-inning no-hitter in Montclair Prep's 14-0 win over Sun Valley Poly. Freshman Myles Hager had two doubles and three RBIs for the Mounties (2-0).

Arleta (1-1) defeated Burbank, 4-0, with junior Javy Lopez striking out 11 and allowing four hits.

Culver City (2-0) defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 4-3. Eric Goodrich allowed two hits in five innings. David Armendariz homered for Notre Dame (0-2).

Crespi has a deep starting pitching staff. Last year's CIF championship team was supposed to be a year away. Playing 1/2 of their games at spacious Valley College plays to their favor. The Mission League is always tough. Go Celts!
