Los Angeles Loyola plans to make an official announcement this afternoon about its new football coach, and indications are that Carson Coach Mike Christensen is the choice.

[Update]

Christensen has told school officials and players at Carson that he is taking the Loyola job.

Christensen will take over a Cubs program that has been searching for a coach since the midseason resignation of Jeff Kearin. He has coached at Carson the last four years. Before that, he rebuilt the Lakewood program in six years as head coach.

He has a son who played football on the JV team at Loyola last season. He is a competent, respected coach who likes his teams to play in summer competitions and also against strong nonleague opponents. He should fit in well at Loyola.
