With less than a week to go in the regular season, the almost final basketball rankings are in, and people should pay attention because they are used to help determine playoff seedings in the Southern Section.

In Division 1AA, the top four teams are Santa Ana Mater Dei, Long Beach Poly, Corona Centennial and Moreno Valley Rancho Verde.

In Division 1A, it’s Chino Hills, Los Angeles Loyola, Lawndale Leuzinger and Temecula Chaparral.

To me, the toughest division is 3A, where the top teams are Gardena Serra, North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, Compton Centennial, Cerritos Gahr, North Hollywood Campbell Hall and Newport Beach Corona del Mar.

Seedings will be released Sunday afternoon and be available at latimes.com/preps. The City Section pairings will be announced Saturday.
