It’s back to the drawing board for Woodland Hills Taft (19-4), which thought it was making progress in preparation for taking on Westchester for the City Section Division I championship.

But the Toreadors suffered a setback Saturday in the Nike Extravaganza. They were not competitive going against a talented team from Elizabeth, N.J., St. Patrick, and lost, 91-64.

The good news is Taft won’t face any team the caliber of St. Patrick in the playoffs, with the exception of Westchester. But it’s a little surprising that the Toreadors played so poorly in the second half and looked outmanned against Kyrie Irving, who scored 24 points, and Michael Gilchrist, who had 22.

Of course, Irving is headed to Duke and the 6-8 Gilchrist might be the No. 1 junior in the country. So it’s going to be a lesson learned for the Toreadors, whose top scorer was Bryce Jones with 19.
