Boys’ basketball: Mater Dei hangs on for victory

With its guards making the big plays, Santa Ana Mater Dei held off Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, 82-76, in the Nike Extravaganza to raise its record to 22-1. Bishop Gorman dropped to 23-2.
Tyler Lamb scored 26 points, Keala King 21, Gary Franklin Jr. 17 and Max Hooper 14 for the Monarchs. Sophomore Shabazz Muhammad had 29 points for Bishop Gorman.
The Monarchs were forced to make their free throws at the end.
