Boys’ basketball: Freshman gets 24 points for Notre Dame

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame opened the Southern Section Division 4A playoffs with a 90-59 victory over City of Industry Workman. Freshman Jahmel Taylor had 24 points and sophomore Kennedy Edwards added 20.

Also in 4A, No. 2-seeded Encino Crespi got 22 points from Matt Mounier to defeat Malibu, 73-40.

In 1AA, Santa Ana Mater Dei (25-1) used balanced scoring to defeat Corona, 95-46. Keala King had 17 points, Tyler Lamb 16 and Gary Franklin Jr. 14.

In 4AA, top-seeded L.A. Price defeated South Pasadena, 87-45. Allen Crabbe had 26 points and Richard Solomon 21. Tyler Hill scored 29 points in Bishop Amat’s 92-42 win over Desert Hot Springs. Chaminade defeated La Puente, 53-39, with Anthony Daniels scoring 17 points.

In 2A, La Verne Damien defeated Chino Don Lugo, 57-49, in overtime. Chris Adams scored 30 points for Damien, including seven three-pointers.

In 1A, No. 2 Los Angeles Loyola defeated Perris, 83-38. Joe Stein scored 16 points and Tony Wroblicky 14. Santa Monica defeated Quartz Hill, 64-39, with Harry Horn scoring 14 points.

In 3A, No. 2 North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake defearted Palos Verdes, 79-43. Erik Swoope scored 30 points. North Hollywood Campbell Hall defeated Rosemead, 70-50, with Austin McBroom scoring 25 points.
